Young Ghanaian Boxer Samuel Takyi has secured the Bronze medal for Ghana in the ongoing Men’s Featherweight Divison boxing championship of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.

Although most Ghanaians were so positive about the 20-year-old boxer winning a Gold medal in the division for the country, they seem not too disappointed after the young boxer was defeated by the United State of America boxer Duke Regan.

Samuel Takyi faced his first defeat at the ongoing global games after losing to Duke Regan in a 4-1 decision by the five-member referee panel in the semi-final match failing to secure his place in the finals of the Men’s Featherweight division boxing championship.

Samuel Takyi’s Bronze medal at the ongoing games will be Ghana’s first medal in about 29 years since the Men’s Football team won a Bronze medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and the first in boxing since Prince Amartey’s Bronze at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.

Although he’s just a 20-year-old boxer, Samuel Takyi will forever be regarded a ‘legend’ in the Ghanaian Boxing fraternity and will also join boxing legends like Clement Quartey who won a medal for Ghana in the Rome 1960 Olympic Games, and Eddie Blay who also did it at the very same ground in Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games.

Ghana will now shift its attention to sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah and will be hoping to win its second medal at the event after the sprinter secured his place in the semi-final of the Men’s 200 metres race.

Richarlison Scores Double As Ghana Lose 3-0 To Brazil In Friendly Match

Brazil defeated Ghana 3-0 on Friday night at the Stade Oceane, France in a pre-2022 FIFA World Cup friendly game.

The Selecao scored all three goals in the first half through a Richarlison double and the opener from Marquinhos.

It was a game of two halves as the South Americans totally dominated the first before substitutions gave the Black Stars an improved display in the second.

Marquinhos headed in the opener just nine minutes into the game from a brilliant Raphinha corner that Wollacott could not keep out.
