Im glad to score for Anderlecht on my debut–Majeed Ashimeru

Ghana midfielder, Majeed Ashimeru, says he is excited to score for Belgium giants, Anderlecht, on his debut in their 2-0 win in round 32 of the Belgian Cup against RFC Liege.

The 23-year-old joined the Brussels-based club on loan until the end of the season in January with an option to make it permanent at the end of the season from Austrian giants, Salzburg.

Ashimeru started the game on the bench for Vincent Kompany’s side and was brought on in the 62nd minute in place of Jacob Bruun Larsen.

Paul Mukairu had already put Anderlecht ahead in the twenty-ninth minute before the former WAFA man came on.

The Black Stars midfielder scored the team’s second five minutes after coming on to mark a dream debut in Belgium.

He took to Twitter to express his delight at making his debut and also scoring.

The former Black Meteors player will be hoping to mark his full debut for Anderlecht when they travel to play Genk on Sunday in the Belgium Pro League.

CAF Cancels 2021 U-17 African Cup Of Nations Tournament

GhanaCNN.com will announce the cancelation of the 2021 Total CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The Youth Championship was scheduled to begin in the host nation of Morocco from 13 to 31 March, as confirmed earlier by the governing body of the continent’s football team.

With less than a week to start the tournament, the CAF decided to cancel the tournament at the Emergency Committee meeting.

Although the Committee was pleased by the recent conclusion of the U-20 AFCON in Mauritania, they agree that canceling the U-17 AFCON is the best decision.

The decision comes on the back of calls from many who thought it was not necessary to have a tournament since FIFA had already canceled the U-17 World Cup this year.

Meanwhile, the CAF is preparing for the resumption of the qualifying games for the 2022 AFCON tournament later this month.

The Ghana Black Stars are supposed to play against South Africa as well as São Tomé and Principe.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko Applauds Coach Abdul Karim Zito for Winning U20 AFCON For Ghana

Ghana Black Stars B coach, Coach Ibrahim Tanko greeted fellow countryman Abdul Karim Zito for winning the U20 Africa Nations Cup with the Black Satellites on Saturday.

Zito challenged the chances of winning the tournament after beating Uganda’s favorites 2-0 in the final game.

Skipper Daniel Afriyie’s brace, hitting in every half, was all that Ghana needed to secure the all-important victory for the tournament winners to emerge.

The trophy will be the second for Karim Zito in two months, after leading the same side to win the U20 WAFU Championship in Benin in December.

Following the victory, Tanko took to social media to sing his colleague praises for the indelible achievement.

“This is a massive show of competence and a strong case of self believe,” he said.

“Winning two major trophies in three months is a confirmation of your competence and your knowledge of the game,” Tanko noted.

“As a colleague coach and a brother, I couldn’t have been much happier seeing you lift the flag of Ghana higher on such an important occasion. Congratulations Zito. You have made all of us proud. #OneGhana #U20Champions,” he added.

The trophy becomes Ghana’s 4th U20 AFCON title after previously winning it in 1993, 1999 and 2009.

Tanko was previously the assistant coach for the Black Stars before taking over as head coach of the U23.

He’s also had coaching stints in Cameroon with the Indomitable Lions and was on their bench during the 2014 World Cup staged in Brazil.

Despite the wonderful achievement of Zito and his boys, the opportunity to represent Ghana at the World Cup has been shut after FIFA called off the U20 World Cup due to rapid rise of the COVID-19 cases.
