A lecturer at the History and Political Science Department, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr Kwasi AmakyeBoateng has called for a total overhauling of the leadership of the National Democratic Congress.

According to him, after the elections, the leadership of the party did not show leadership when it fueled protests marches across the country with people burning tyres on the streets whiles others also engaged the police in exchanges.

Apart from the unnecessary protests, he said some leaders of the NDC threatened the peace of the country for threatening to prevent the inauguration of the President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Against this backdrop, he indicated that there is the need for a total overhauling of the leadership of the leadership of the largest opposition party.

“Some people in the NDC threatened to prevent the inauguration of the President, some even said they will cause mayhem whiles other said they will hit the streets and shoot. Sadly enough, none of the leadership of the NDC came out to condemn these threats and call on their supporters to desist from violence.

In fact NDC should overhaul its leaders, they have brought the name of the party into disrepute, all of them including President Mahama. They should let them all sit at home and bring new faces,” he said in an interview monitored by GhanaCNN.com.

‘I Foresee A Doom Before Him’- Popular NDC Man Warns Sammy Gyamfi

Published

Recent comments made by the NDC’s National Communications Officer, Samuel ‘Sammy’ Gyamfi, according to economist and columnist Isaac ‘Coach Opeele’ Boateng, are likely to exacerbate the party’s already precarious situation.

According to him, the party’s inability to properly present its case, causing disappointment among its members and well-wishers, is a storm that is still passing, “and the party is already in trouble” because of Sammy Gyamfi’s outburst.

He pointed out that the present situation in the NDC is a repeat of what occurred in the NPP in 2012. “A storm is brewing in the NDC, with Sammy Gyamfi accusing the party’s leadership in parliament of being disloyal and calling for their expulsion. This is the same thing that happened in the NPP, resulting in internal problems.”

Coach Opeele believes the NDC will face more internal strife in the future, particularly because they currently lack a unifying leader. “The NDC is behaving in the same way as the NPP did in opposition a few years ago. I assume the party no longer has a leader who can summon the party’s members to order.”

This was mentioned by the Social Analyst as part of his contribution to a panel discussion on Happy 98.9 FM’s Epa Hoa Daben political talk show.

The NDC’s election petition, which claimed that no party received the legal 50 percent plus one needed to win the Presidency, was dismissed by a seven-member Supreme Court bench. The court has ruled that the case is without substance.

In other news, the NDC’s National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has accused the party’s leadership in Parliament, as well as the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, of betraying the party, which is assumed to be exacerbating the party’s woes.

Sammy Gyamfi said Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South, and Muntaka Mubarak, MP for Asawase, “brazenly defied the party leadership and betrayed the public good for their selfish interest.”

“We must not allow them to succeed in their narrow-minded attempt to delegitimize the NDC, the party that has done so much for them and all of us. In a Facebook post, he said, “The embarrassment they have brought on the group will forever hang like an albatross around their necks.”

His claim comes after NDC MPs on Parliament’s Appointments Committee approved Dominic Nitiwul, the Defence Minister-designate, and later approved three others rejected Minister-designates when they were brought before the House.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto, the Food and Agriculture Minister-designate, received 53.96 percent of the vote with 143 votes out of 265 ballots cast, with one spoilt ballot.

Mavis Hawa Koomson received 60.75 percent of the vote with 161 votes, and Oppong Nkrumah received 58.65 percent of the vote with 155 votes.

With 137 NPP MPs, 137 NDC MPs, and one independent candidate remaining in Ghana’s Parliament, it appears that some NDC MPs voted to support the Minister-designates.
