Coach Ibrahim Tanko Applauds Coach Abdul Karim Zito for Winning U20 AFCON For Ghana

Coach Ibrahim Tanko Applauds Coach Abdul Karim Zito for Winning U20 AFCON For Ghana

Ghana Black Stars B coach, Coach Ibrahim Tanko greeted fellow countryman Abdul Karim Zito for winning the U20 Africa Nations Cup with the Black Satellites on Saturday.

Zito challenged the chances of winning the tournament after beating Uganda’s favorites 2-0 in the final game.

Skipper Daniel Afriyie’s brace, hitting in every half, was all that Ghana needed to secure the all-important victory for the tournament winners to emerge.

The trophy will be the second for Karim Zito in two months, after leading the same side to win the U20 WAFU Championship in Benin in December.

Following the victory, Tanko took to social media to sing his colleague praises for the indelible achievement.

“This is a massive show of competence and a strong case of self believe,” he said.

“Winning two major trophies in three months is a confirmation of your competence and your knowledge of the game,” Tanko noted.

“As a colleague coach and a brother, I couldn’t have been much happier seeing you lift the flag of Ghana higher on such an important occasion. Congratulations Zito. You have made all of us proud. #OneGhana #U20Champions,” he added.

The trophy becomes Ghana’s 4th U20 AFCON title after previously winning it in 1993, 1999 and 2009.

Tanko was previously the assistant coach for the Black Stars before taking over as head coach of the U23.

He’s also had coaching stints in Cameroon with the Indomitable Lions and was on their bench during the 2014 World Cup staged in Brazil.

Despite the wonderful achievement of Zito and his boys, the opportunity to represent Ghana at the World Cup has been shut after FIFA called off the U20 World Cup due to rapid rise of the COVID-19 cases.

FIFA Officially Bans Chad From All Football Activities For Life

FIFA Officially Bans Chad From All Football Activities For Life

Global football governing body, FIFA has banned Chad from football until further notice. The decision was taken by the Bureau of the Fifa Council on Wednesday and takes effect immediately.

Note that in December 2020, Fifa had rejected a request from the country’s ministry of sports to dissolve the Chadian Football Federation.

On March 10, the minister for youth and sports released a statement to prevent the Chadian Football Association, FTFA, from performing its obligatory duties due to a dispute between both parties.

CAF then disqualified Chad from the Africa Cup of Nations qualification race, just a few days prior to their fixtures against Namibia and Mali, following the sport Minister’s actions. FIFA has now waded in, banning the country henceforth.

FIFA says the ban was as a result of government interference in the football operations of the African country but announced that the suspension will be reversed as soon as the relevant government decisions have been revoked.

“The Bureau of the Fifa Council decided to suspend the Chadian Football Association (FTFA) with immediate effect due to government interference,” a statement from the Fifa website read.

“The suspension was prompted by the recent decisions of Chadian government authorities to permanently withdraw the powers delegated to the FTFA, establish a national committee for the temporary management of football and seize control of the FTFA’s premises.

“The suspension will be lifted once the relevant government decisions have been repealed and the FTFA and its management, led by president Moctar Mahamoud Hamid, have confirmed to Fifa that the FTFA premises are again under its control.”
