We Are Not There Because Of NDC – Muntaka Slaps Sammy Gyamfi

Muntaka Mubarak, the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, has reminded Sammy Gyamfi, the National D Communications Officer, that national interest must always take precedence over party interest.

“I’m not going to debate the merits or drawbacks of the party interest. If we don’t pay attention, party politics will trump our own ideals, constitution, and national interests,” Muntaka told Adom FM.

This comes after Sammy Gyamfi accused him and the minority leadership of pursuing their own narrow interests at the detriment of the party’s.

“Some people have sold their conscience, but we haven’t. And we will work together to reconstruct the party from the ashes of 3 March 2021, which I refer to as “Black Wednesday” – our day of self-inflicted shame,” Mr Gyamfi wrote in the post.

“The new leadership has lost their moral legitimacy to rule, and they are unfit to sit on the NDC’s front bench. “More importantly,” he said, “it’s pastime we realized there is no NDC Speaker of Parliament.”

“No, we don’t!” he stressed, in reference to Mr Bagbin, complaining: “We have a Speaker who rode on the back of the NDC into office to pursue his own parochial agenda and nothing more. You trust them at your own peril,” he warned members and supporters of the NDC.

But Muntaka says the priority of parliamentarians is to do the bidding of their constituents which encompasses members of all the political parties and not just the NDC.

He says that in the institution of parliament, the demands of a particular party are treated as a piece of advice and when it clashes with the national interest, it is imperative that MPs place the country over their party.

He tells Sammy Gyamfi that when he took the oath of office, he pledged to uphold the country’s constitution, not the NDC’s constitution.

“Each member of parliament took an oath to protect the constitution. Any member of parliament’s mandate stretches beyond his or her political party. Every member of parliament has a mandate that is independent of the party’s interests, because after the election, you represent everybody in your electorate, not just the party. Since your group is just one leg, all you say is only advice. Keep in mind, the MP, that the buck ends with you.”

“You swore an oath of your own principles and conscience. One of my responsibilities as a Whip is to get everyone to understand the party’s stance and be able to weigh it in, but the ultimate decision rests with each member,” he said.

After Speaker Alban Bagbin, Muntaka becomes the second NDC member in parliament to answer to Sammy Gyamfi.

In an interview with Accra FM, Babgin told the NDC Communications Officer that in his current position, he represents the entire Ghanaian population, not just the NDC.

“Now, I don’t belong to any party. I’m Speaker of Ghana. I’m not a Speaker of NPP. I’m not a Speaker of NDC. I’m Speaker of Ghana. And I must hold the balance. So, decision-taking; no. My duty is to ensure that there’s an even playing field and the decision is taken, and I announce it. That is all,” he explained his role.

“And, so, if you sit down and look at me and think that maybe you were my girlfriend before [and, therefore] I should give you an advantage over another whom I’ve never met, please, then don’t come to me; you won’t get it. Let’s finish; after work, we can do that business together. Not when I’m working. That’s my nature; that’s how I’ve been up to this time and, so, it’s unfortunate that these things are happening”, he said.

Are You Aware Of The Ritual Killings In Ghana: You Have Made Ghana Hard – NDC Blast Akufo Addo In A Press Statement

In a statement, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressed condolences to the family of the ten-year-old boy who was killed by two teenagers at Kasoa for “money ritual purposes.”

The statement urged President Akufo-Addo to expedite investigations into unsolved crimes committed in the country since he assumed power.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS ON THE MURDER OF YOUNG ISHMAEL MENSAH ABDALLAH AT KASOA.

It is with extreme shock and disbelief that the National Democratic Congress received news of the gruesome murder of a ten-year-old boy called Ishmael Mensah Abdallah at Kasoa in the Central Region by his own teenaged acquaintances for ritual purposes.

The Leadership, as well as the entire rank and file of the NDC, join the family and friends and, indeed, the entire nation, in mourning the loss of this young and promising boy much beloved by his family and community.

It is the expectation of the National Democratic Congress that the appropriate authorities will ensure that the bereaved family are comforted by the swiftness of the application of the law to punish the perpetrators and all who may be behind this dastardly murder.

The NDC has taken due notice of the fact that there appears to be a fashionable craze toward the acquisition of quick wealth by many of our countrymen and women and the youth in particular, without the attendant hard, morally sound and lawful means of obtaining the same.

We deem this development as a dangerous trend that has to be condemned and discouraged by all and sundry.

It is a development that the NDC is unquestionably opposed to, or else we risk bequeathing to the youth, a practice and a lifestyle that cannot build this nation.

We further wish to draw the attention of the Akufo-Addo government to the plethora of crimes whose resolution has dragged on interminably, thus, encouraging the perpetuation of the culture of impunity.

We encourage the youth to look out for honest, hardworking, and accomplished persons as their role models.

The wealth that has been improperly obtained, should never be an attraction for the upcoming youth of this great nation.

In this regard, we call on the Akufo-Addo government to speed up investigations and crank the wheels of justice so that the country can rid itself of the odious reminder of this unfortunate event.

May the soul of young Ishmael Mensah Abdallah rest in peace.
