Odorkor: Four Injured After A Driver Drove Through Pedestrians

Four people have been admitted to the hospital, following the reckless driving of two drivers, which ended one almost dead at Odorkor. Odorkor which is one of the several cities within Greater Accra is considered a populous city because of its huge population settlement.

The city connects several other towns and major cities together, with its main road. The main road which is used by everyone within the city works only with traffic lights when pedestrians are using them. At five on Saturday evening, was when an unregistered Chevrolet Cruze, made a mistake and drove in the wrong direction when the traffic light was red. The driver of the Chevy, who was coming from Accra, was arguing with a Toyota haice driver over his poor driving abilities on the highway.

The haice who was going to Odorkor market, kept crossing the Chevy without signals, and at a point almost crashed the Chevy on the highway. This created arguments between the driver of the Chevy and haice driver, when they got to the Odorkor traffic light. The Chevy tried making the haice driver understand the magnitude of his actions, which could have lead both of them into an accident, but the driver of the haice did not have the temper for it and insulted the Chevy driver. The Chevy driver did not take the insults lightly and responded with the same anger, which was more than the haice driver’s own.

The haice driver wanted to side kick the Chevy with his driver’s side bonnet, and the Chevy driver drove to the opposite direction to prevent the angry haice commercial driver from scratching his unregistered car, which was meant to be sold. The actions of the haice driver, when he attempted to side kick the Chevy, complicated the situation which forced the Chevy driver to respond in the same way. The Chevy driver attempted to cross the Haice driver so both can stop and settle their differences, but the haice driver halted his breaks before slightly crashing the back of the Chevy.

A Mercedes sprinter, who was branching to the other traffic lane of the road, did not see the road rage between the Chevy and the haice driver. And in attempts to branch, the haice driver forced the Chevy to crash the Mercedes, who was about to branch. The haice driver tricked the Chevy and lead him into crashing the Mercedes, when he tried crossing him at the front edge of the traffic. Over six people who were crossing the road, were all affected by the actions of the drivers, which caused four of them to be seriously injured. Two out of people were saved by the sprinter which halted the Chevy from hitting them, whiles the other four were all crashed by the bonnets of the Chevy.

The actions of both drivers, the Chevy and the haice, forced pedestrians who saw them misbehaving on the road to attack them. The haice driver was given serval beatings from his driver’s side before driving through the crowd at top speed. Some tried chasing him but, they were not successful in the pursuit as he got away. The Chevy driver was in shock after the airbags of the steering wheel saved his life, and that forced pedestrians, not to attack him. Though he was given several head knocks by some pedestrians before the driver of the Mercedes went to aid.

Are You Aware Of The Ritual Killings In Ghana: You Have Made Ghana Hard – NDC Blast Akufo Addo In A Press Statement

In a statement, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressed condolences to the family of the ten-year-old boy who was killed by two teenagers at Kasoa for “money ritual purposes.”

The statement urged President Akufo-Addo to expedite investigations into unsolved crimes committed in the country since he assumed power.

Read the full statement below:

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS ON THE MURDER OF YOUNG ISHMAEL MENSAH ABDALLAH AT KASOA.

It is with extreme shock and disbelief that the National Democratic Congress received news of the gruesome murder of a ten-year-old boy called Ishmael Mensah Abdallah at Kasoa in the Central Region by his own teenaged acquaintances for ritual purposes.

The Leadership, as well as the entire rank and file of the NDC, join the family and friends and, indeed, the entire nation, in mourning the loss of this young and promising boy much beloved by his family and community.

It is the expectation of the National Democratic Congress that the appropriate authorities will ensure that the bereaved family are comforted by the swiftness of the application of the law to punish the perpetrators and all who may be behind this dastardly murder.

The NDC has taken due notice of the fact that there appears to be a fashionable craze toward the acquisition of quick wealth by many of our countrymen and women and the youth in particular, without the attendant hard, morally sound and lawful means of obtaining the same.

We deem this development as a dangerous trend that has to be condemned and discouraged by all and sundry.

It is a development that the NDC is unquestionably opposed to, or else we risk bequeathing to the youth, a practice and a lifestyle that cannot build this nation.

We further wish to draw the attention of the Akufo-Addo government to the plethora of crimes whose resolution has dragged on interminably, thus, encouraging the perpetuation of the culture of impunity.

We encourage the youth to look out for honest, hardworking, and accomplished persons as their role models.

The wealth that has been improperly obtained, should never be an attraction for the upcoming youth of this great nation.

In this regard, we call on the Akufo-Addo government to speed up investigations and crank the wheels of justice so that the country can rid itself of the odious reminder of this unfortunate event.

May the soul of young Ishmael Mensah Abdallah rest in peace.
