Fire In NPP Over Ethnically Charged Campaign For Akufo Addo Successor

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been caught in a tumultuous in-fighting along tribal lines as sections of the party, led by the NPP Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu is pushing for a Northerner to lead the party in the 2024 Presidential race.

Last week, Kyei Mensah-Bonsu in an interview with Joy News claim there was a sort of convention in the party that they cannot field an Akan for the third time to lead the party, after John Agyekum Kufour-an Ashanti and President Akufo Addo, an Akyem.

“…I think it may not hold well for a party that is accused by some as being overly Akanistic party [to field another Akan],” Mensah-Bonsu said in what clearly exposed his alignment with speculated plans by President Akufo Addo to select his own replacement by fielding his current deputy, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

But, former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, who is reportedly lacing his boots to bid for the NPP presidential ticket, described Kyei Mensah Bonsu’s statement as nonsensical and “foolish” talk.

“…we are fooling. Why are we disturbing the party? For me, normally, I will not mention names, but I am disappointed with the Majority Leader. Are you [Majority Leader] the one to bring this noise to the party? Agyarko told pro-NPP Oman FM.

Meanwhile, an activist of the ruling party, I. K. Boahen, has pooh-poohed the cult playing psychological mind games to project Dr. Bawumia as the bonafide next in line to President Akufo Addo.

In the write-up Mr. Boahen challenges claims that the NPP gained a lot of votes in the 2020 elections from the Northern parts of Ghana because Bawumia is from the Region, pointing out that the analysis rather showed that the party’s fielding of well-resourced appointees did the trick.

“Most of the seats we won from the Northern sector and currently being occupied by NPP were contested by highly recognized government position holders; people who were at the presidency, were holding CEO positions, were deputy CEOs and or were holding highly influential government positions…So are we saying that but not Bawumia factor, these people didn’t use their positions in any way to help their constituents hence their win to become MP?” Boahene questioned.

“Please let’s think about the above well before we conclude that, Bawumia factor won NPP Northern votes. Let’s critically analyse, before we conclude, otherwise, some will also conclude that, the margin of the high vote in the Ashanti Region is not appreciated by the party, and this is dangerous!!!” he wrote.

Proponents of a Bawumia flagbearership in 2024 have advanced many reasons, including the claim that it would deodorize the NPP’s notorious image as an Akan party.

Others have claimed that so far the baton of the party’s leadership has been juggled around the backgrounds of two out of three founding philosophers of the NPP tradition – Busia and Danquah – and that it is now the turn of the third founding philosopher – Dombo.

As Dombo was a Northerner, Bawumia has been promoted as a representative of the lineage of Dombo. However, I.K. Asante pooh-poohs this. “DMB (Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia) is not a true descendant of Dombo is a fact, which is not debatable because that line and tag can’t be used as an arsenal if the real history is unraveled. Factually, it’s not a reality but just a tag.”

“Mo De3, Gyimie Nkoaa” – Don't Burn The Excavators, Use Them To Fix Roads – Twene Jonas

According to GhanaCNN.com, Twene Jonas is furious about the government’s decision to destroy on-site galamsey equipment.

In a report filed by StarrNews, the chiefs have called on the government to stop burning their excavators. They rather want the government to use the seized excavators to fix the deplorable roads in the region.

According to Twene Jonas, the burning of excavators seized by the anti-galamsey taskforce won’t solve the galamsey menace the country is facing.

“Burning down excavators which have been hugely invested in is madness and shouldn’t be encouraged in this country. Akufo Addo should use the seized excavators fix Ghana’s bad roads” he said.

Akufo Addo Has Fixed Everything Including Mahama's Relationship With 'Slay Queens' - Abronye DC

Highly-opinionated Abronye DC has for the first time added his voice to the buzz in town in reference to the #FixTheCountry protest.

According to him, he’s yet to understand why some Ghanaians are so irresponsible and ungrateful.

In the ice of Abronye DC, Akufo-Addo has already fixed the country especially with everything he promised and he has even brought decency to the presidency.

He stressed that former President John Mahama highly disgraced himself as he was rumoured to have been the father of numerous slay queens in the country amidst the ‘papa no’ brouhaha.

He made this disclosure while bashing Efia Odo for championing the #FixTheCountry agenda on social media.

Similarly, in other news, Kumawood actress Matilda Asare not long ago in the studios of UTV said that there is nothing to be fixed in Ghana by Prez Akufo Addo as the systems are working perfectly.

According to her, #FixTheCountry campaigners must be specific in their demands and not ask the government to fix the whole country.

You And Your People Are Not 'Smart' At All- Top Ghanaian Journalist Boldly Exposes France

Kwesi Pratt Jnr., Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has expressed disappointment in the African Presidents who are currently attending a summit in France.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic, left Ghana on Sunday, May 16, 2021, for a nine (9) day official working visit to France, Belgium, and South Africa.

These working visits are part of the President’s efforts to re-engage with the world following the Coronavirus pandemic, and they highlight Ghana’s impressive business-friendly environment to the rest of the world.

In France, President Akufo-Addo is attending a Summit on Financing African Economies hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, May 18.

The Summit brings together various African and European leaders and heads of international financial institutions to devise strategies for Africa’s recovery.

Speaking on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ on Tuesday, Kwesi Pratt questioned the logic in organizing the summit in France.

He asked why the African leaders would leave Africa to attend a summit on COVID-19 in France, asking if there is no place in West Africa where they could have held the summit.

To Mr. Pratt, this sends a wrong signal, hence stressing Africa must wake up and stop the neocolonialism.

“So, if there is an outbreak of COVID in West Africa and we want to discuss issues about it, we have to go to Paris. We couldn’t organize it in Ghana, Lagos or Abuja, unless we send it to Paris. Why? Emmanuel Macron is doing this because he knows what he wants. You know what, all the French-speaking African countries’ foreign reserves are stored in the Central Bank of France to the extent that the French-speaking African countries save up their foreign reserves in France, go back for a loan and pay interest on it. This arrangement between us and the former colonial metropolis doesn’t help West Africa,” he said.
