UN Security Council: Ghana Victorious In Crucial Election

Published

on

Ghana has been elected onto the United Nations Security Council after voting on June 11, 2021.

This will be the fourth time the country has held a seat on the UN Security Council.

Ghana faced competition from Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo but emerged victorious.

The first time was during the 1962-1963 term. Ghana returned to the Council two decades later for the 1986-1987 term, and then for the third time from 2006-2007.

Ghana also has support from ECOWAS and the African Union.

Ghana’s presence at the UN has also been largely boosted by the several Ghanaian nationals serving with distinction in the global body since the sixties, most notably, Kofi Annan who served as UN Secretary-General.

There are two non-permanent seats available for the Africa region.

Meanwhile, five are permanent members, who have the right to veto resolutions: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The 10 non-permanent members are elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms, with five elected each year.

Kwame Sefa Kayi Boldly Blast Modern-Day Journalists For Doing This On Air

Broadcaster and media personality, Kwami Sefa Kayi has bemoaned how journalists in recent years have adopted a know it all attitude.

In an interview on Joy news, he wondered when the attitude of the media personnel thinking they’re always right creep into the system.

He said although journalists are responsible for holding the balance of society they must be willing to accept criticism because their opinions cannot always be right.

He also slammed attacks on journalists, noting that disagreements with journalists must be countered with superior argument instead of insults or threats.

‘Prez Akufo Addo and Bawumia Have A PhD In Lies And Deceit’ – NDC national organizer

Joshua Hamidu Akamba, national organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has claimed that President Akufo Addo and Bawumia are experts at deceiving Ghanaians.
According to Akamba, his description of Ghana’s first and second gentlemen as dishonest men is appropriate given the NPP government’s failure to deliver on its promises to the electorate.

His remarks follow the President’s refund of GH238,000 to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.

The funds represent his salary increase as a result of the recommendations of the Presidential Emoluments Committee, which is chaired by Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu.

Following the constant lies of Ghana’s incumbent president and his right-hand man, Bawumia, Joshua Akamba made the above-mentioned assertion in an interview on Accra-based Neat FM.

They are “specialists in deception and lies.”

“How long did he [President Nana Addo] take to refund that money? Was it [Money] not showing up in his account?” he inquired.
