Honus Wagner Card Sells For $6.6 Million, The Third Record Baseball Card Sale In A Year

A T206 Honus Wagner card sold for $6.6 million in an online auction that concluded early Monday morning, smashing the record price for a baseball card.

The card, which was issued by the American Tobacco Co. between 1909 and 1911 as part of what is now known as the T206 series of baseball cards, has a long history as baseball’s most valuable card, maintaining that distinction for most of the history of the hobby. One such card set a mark at $3.12 million in 2016, but the Wagners were overtaken last August by a one-ofa-kind card featuring modern-day superstar Mike Trout at $3.93 million and then in January by a Mickey Mantle rookie card at $5.2 million.

Now, the record again belongs to Wagner, a legendary Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop who played his last major league game in 1917 and was one of the five members of the Baseball Hall of Fame’s inaugural class in 1936.

The auction, run by Robert Edward Auctions, opened on July 23 with a reserve price of $1 million, but the bidding quickly left that figure in the dust. The escalation stalled for a bit after a $4 million bid came in on July 28 but picked back up as the deadline approached, with the 26th and final bid coming just past midnight Eastern time on Monday and carrying a so-called hammer price of $5,505,247. Adding in the 20% buyer’s premium that REA collects pushes the official sale price to $6,606,296.

At least for the time being, the buyer remains anonymous, as does the seller.

The 110-year-old card—which was part of a private collection for more than three decades before it was sold at auction in 2012 for $1.2 million and then sold again privately in the last couple of years—had received a grade of VG 3 by the authentication agency SGC. That rating (on a scale of ten) suggested it was in an exceptional condition relative to many of the 60 or so other copies of the card thought to exist today.

Still, while high-end Wagners have been selling for seven figures for more than a decade, the new record price is at least in part a reflection of a remarkable boom in the card market over the last year and a half.

And even as some segments of the market—such as modern basketball cards—have cooled off over the last few months, rare and vintage cards remain ascendant. Recent notable sports card sales include a one-of-a-kind Luka Doncic rookie card (which sold for $4.6 million in March), an autographed LeBron James rookie card ($5.2 million, April), and a Wayne Gretzky rookie card ($3.75 million, May). It’s official, the redesigned Google smartphones are finally here. Google introduces the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro with its distinctive design and powered by Google Tensor.

Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro Orders More Than Twice Last Year's Shipments: Report | Technology News

The latest Pixel addition is Google’s first-ever processor that would come with an Android 12. These smartphones are fast, incredibly smart, and secure just for you.

Earlier this year, Google teased us with a look for Android 12, which featured bigger buttons, a large clock on the home screen that changes size based on the number of notifications that appear, and muted pastel colors.

We were also teased with features series of productivity updates, including an option to hold the power button for Google Assistant to make a phone call or ask for an article to be read out loud, and augmented reality tools in Google Maps.

With the addition of Google-owned Tensor to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, users are exposed to a wide range of entirely new capabilities with their smartphones.

Google Tensors is a chip designed specifically around Google’s AI and carries the latest advancements in Machine Learning at lower power consumption compared to previous Pixel phones.

Google’s new in-house Tensor processor marks a move away from the third-party chips that are commonly used in rival Android devices. According to Google, Tensor guarantees that the Pixel 6 smartphones run 80% faster than the Pixel 5, allowing on-device artificial intelligence for features such as more accurate speech recognition and image processing.

For Pixel lovers who are enthusiastic about games, the Tensors also provides the phones with an extra processing power for games and apps and makes some of its new camera tools possible.

According to market research firm IDC. Last year Google’s Pixel barely represented 1% of the global smartphones market, with the sale of about 3.7 million units. But with indelible Google’s effort at creating a tailor-made processor for its own Google Android software which will create a fantastic experience for end-users. Chances are that the tech giant is ready to take a much bigger slice of the global smartphones market sales.

The new Pixel line has a bold look that makes the camera bar very noticeable thereby giving the phone a clean, symmetrical design that puts the camera front-and-center. Pixel 6 has a distinctive graphic and vibrant look with a matte black metal band that complements its expressive, versatile color options.

The inspiration for Pixel 6 Pro came from the finishes you see in luxury jewelry and watches. The polished metal body of Pixel 6 Pro presents a gorgeous curved glass in colors that complement the metallic frames. The Pixel 6 will be available in three fantastic colors — Seafoam, Kinda Coral, and black, while the Pixel 6 Pro is available in sunny, white, and black.

Apple Supplier Foxconn, Joins The Electric Car Bandwagon

Foxconn (Apple supplier), this week announced plans for the production of electric cars for automobile brands under a similar contract model.

iPhone-Maker Foxconn Unveils Three Electric Vehicles With Ford Names

According to Young Liu, the Chairman of the Foxconn Technology Group, the brand that manufactures smartphones for Apple Inc. and other global brands, the company will produce cars and buses for brands in China, North America, Europe and other markets, with the clients having the chance to modify their appearance and features for their markets.

The Foxconn brand also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Company now joins a crowded global electric car market that almost every automaker that is worth its salt is into, with dozens of very ambitious startups.

According to the company, the flagship Model E Sedan, which was developed by Italian design house, Pininfarina will be launched in the year 2023, with the Model E having to seat five and have a range of 750 kilometers (470 miles) on one charge.

The Foxconn henchman further mentioned renowned automakers Fisker Inc. and Taiwan’s Yulong Group as clients, in what could be described as a major infusion.

Taiwan News, a popular newspaper in the country had last week written that there are other Foxconn potential customers and Stellantic, an automaker formed by the merger of FIAT Chrysler and Peugeot is one of them but Young Liu fell short of confirming that.

Its first electric bus, the Model T, will have a range of less than 400 kilometers (250 miles) on one charge, Foxconn said.

The electric car use is fast becoming a global bandwagon as according to International Energy Agency. , out of all cars sold in 2020, 4.6% were plug-in electric, and by the end of that year there were more than 10 million plug-in electric cars on the world’s roads.

Even with the rapid growth, by the end of 2020, only about 1% of cars on the world’s roads were fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars with many countries having to establish government incentives for plug-in electric vehicles, tax credits, subsidies, and other non-monetary incentives while several countries have legislated to phase-out sales of fossil fuel cars, to reduce air pollution and limit climate change.

An evidence of the global acceptance of electric cars was when the Tesla Model 3 was the world’s all-time best-selling electric car in early 2020 and in June 2021, became the first electric car to surpass 1 million global sales.

Donald Trump Launches His Own App And Social Media Site

Donald Trump Launches His Own App And Social Media Site

We have been availed of Donald Trump’s imbroglio with popular social media giants, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter with the world’s most powerful apps blacklisting the former United States Chief Executive as a result of his ‘at times’ caustic vituperations.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and major social media sites gave him a red card for his alleged role on January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection and after months after, the former President of the United States has announced he would launch a new media company with its own social media platform.

According to Trump, his intention to launching the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) and the corresponding ‘Truth Social’ app is to rival the Big Tech companies that have shut him out and denied him the megaphone that was paramount to his national rise.

“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favourite American President has been silenced,” he said in a statement. “This is unacceptable.”

Ever since he was banned from Twitter and Facebook, Donald Trump has continuously voiced out his frustrations and the Big tech guys monopoly of free speech and has intimated the public about his plans to launch his own social media site, with an earlier effort made to launch a blog on his existing website getting abandoned after the page drew dismal views.

Apart from the Truth Social app which being expected to get launched in November, with a nationwide rollout scheduled for early 2021, the TMTG is also having in the works a video-on-demand service coined TMTG+ that will have in its feature, entertainment programming, news and podcasts.

The TMTG presentation on Trump’s website has in one slide that included a graphic of TMTG’s potential competitors, ranging from Facebook and Twitter to Netflix and Disney+ to CNN, with the same slide suggesting that the TMTG in the long term will also transform to becoming a power in cloud computing and payments, a suggestion that it will go head-to-head with Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Stripe.

The presentation did not fail to take some jabs at Trump’s previous favorite social network, with the slide accompanying the Truth Social preorders listing in Apple’s app store depicting a social network that has a striking resemblance to Twitter, right down to short messages and user handles preceded by “@” signs.

The graphics also featured a user with the name ‘Jack’s Beard’, where the mimicked Jack had to fume and show his anger when an employer stalled with his order to delete a user and its posts, describing it ‘kinda an overreach’. The ‘Jack’s Beard account is also laced with the @ handle @jack, akin to Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey’s handle on the microblogging site. It should be noted that the Twitter henchman has a long scraggly beard that has drawn the attention of global users and the beard after Jack in the TMTG’s presentation appears like a direct jab at him.

Of note is Truth Social’s term of service, which forbids users from annoying any of the site’s employees and from statements that “disparage, tarnish, or otherwise harm, in our opinion, us and/or the Site”, though it was not immediately clear who the “us” in that statement refers to.

TMTG announced that the new app and social site was done through a merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp., while noting that it seeks to become a publicly listed company.

Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWA), a Miami based special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) belonged to the category of companies designed to list the shares of a private company more quickly than a traditional initial public offering. This entails that in actual terms the SPAC acquires a private firm, while changing its name and other details to those of the acquired firm. It is a common practice for Special-Purpose Acquisition Companies to pay for their acquisitions with cash provided by investors who bought into the SPAC’s initial public offering.

According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), $287.5 million was raised from DWA’s Sept. 8 with the company announcing that it has raised roughly $293 million in cash, to be used to grow TMTG’s ventures.
