‘Baby Jet’ Asamoah Gyan To Miss His First AFCON After 13 Years
Legendary Ghana forward, Asamoah Gyan will miss the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon next year, his first since CAN 2008.
The 36-year-old missed Milovan Rajevac’s 30-man provisional squad and will not be present at the competition which begins in January.
Gyan remains Ghana’s all time leading scorer in international football and also holds the record for the goals by a Black Stars player at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The former Sunderland star has netted eight goals at the tournament and was an integral member of Milovan Rajevac’s team that reach the final of AFCON 2010. He scored three goals enroute to the finals against Egypt.
Meanwhile, his lack of football for the majority of 2021 has seen him miss out of several call ups.
He has not featured for the Black Stars since the Nations Cup in Egypt 2019, where Ghana reached the round of 16.
Meanwhile, in his absence, Rajevac has invited four strikers including teenager Felix Afena-Gyan.
Ghana starts their Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Morocco on January 10, 2022.

Sulley Muntari Contacts Kumasi Asante Kotoko Over Transfer Move
Published
21 mins agoon
August 15, 2022Former Ghana international Sulley Muntari has held talks with Asante Kotoko over a transfer move to join the club.
The 37-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Hearts of Oak at the expiration of his contract last season.
Muntari signed a six-month deal with the Phobians, winning two trophies during his short stint with the club.
He won this year’s President Cup against Asante Kotoko and also helped the team defend the MTN FA Cup title last season.
GhanaCNN.com understands that Hearts of Oak is ready to offer the former Inter Milan midfielder a new contract ahead of the season.
However, the deal has stalled because of Muntari’s interest in joining arch-rivals Asante Kotoko ahead of the team’s CAF Champions League campaign.
Muntari has already contacted Asante Kotoko on the possibility of joining the club next season.
A meeting has been held between the player and Asante Kotoko with Muntari laying down his conditions before joining the club.
According to our source, Asante Kotoko is weighing the option of signing Sulley Muntari and how his brand can boost the club’s commercial drive next season.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko is likely to appoint Burkina Faso head coach Kamou Malo as the club’s technical director.
The Ghana Football Association has extended the transfer window for another seven days as it closes on August 22.
