(Video) Aisha Huang Will Be Convicted And Thrown In Ghanaian Jail – Lands Minister

Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor has assured that ‘Galamsey’ queen Aisha Huang will be convicted and imprisoned in a Ghana jail if found guilty of the charges against her.

Samuel Jinapor said this would be possible due to the government’s legislation and policy intervention such as Act 559 which has been amended to proffer stiffer punishment to persons found guilty of illegal mining.

The Minister while speaking to journalists in Accra said per facts in his possession, he is convinced Aisha Huang is guilty of the charges proffered against her.

“Aisha Huang has been arrested today. She is being prosecuted and she will be prosecuted under Ghanaian law in Ghanaian court if she is found guilty which I believe she should be found and I think I am not making prejudicial comments but I am saying that given the fact that I have, I am expecting that Aisha Huang will be found guilty, convicted and sentenced and thrown into Ghanaian jail,” he said.

According to Samuel Abu Jinapor, the fight against ‘galamsey’ does not focus on Aisha Huang as it is been projected.

He said other 154 persons of different nationalities have also been arrested which is a testimony to the government’s fight against the menace.

“Not just related to Aisha Huang but generally deal with foreigners. Three or four days ago, we arrested 154 foreigners who were involved in illegal small-scale mining and even how to keep them was a problem…Aisha Huang’s case should not be looked at in isolation, it should be looked at in the context of foreigners being involved in Ghanaian criminality and how we deal with it.

“The assumption that the President’s whole might and effort revolve around Aisha Huang [not true],” he added.

Reacting to the Minister’s assurance to prosecute Aisha Huang, Executive Director for the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining says the government must demonstrate its will by seeing through the prosecution of persons, especially, foreign nationals who are found culpable.

Ken Ashigbey in an interview on Top Story, Tuesday, indicated the need to translate the rhetorics into action.

“There is no better story to be told than that…We have heard the President speak and now we’re hearing the sector Minister speak. We’re not going to take their word for it,” he said on Joy FM.

The Chinese national who is set to reappear in court on September 27 was accused of engaging in mining without a license after she was re-arrested in Ghana some weeks ago.

This was after she was deported back in 2018 over a similar incident.

Though the nature of her exit is still being debated, the Attorney General has already communicated his support to see the prosecution through.

Belgium Eliminated In Group Stage As Croatia 2018 World Cup Runners-Up Advance

Published

Romelu Lukaku missed a couple of big chances as Belgium failed to get the win they needed against Croatia, who advance with Morocco.

World Cup

Belgium were eliminated from the World Cup in the group stage after drawing 0-0 with Croatia at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium on Thursday.

Morocco’s 2-1 victory over Canada elsewhere in Group F meant Belgium had to win to advance to the last 16, while Croatia needed to avoid defeat.

A low-quality first half, in which the only talking point was an overturned Croatia penalty, made way for a far more gripping second period.

Romelu Lukaku was brought on at half-time and squandered a few big chances, though ultimately the match finished goalless as Belgium suffered a shock early exit.

Belgium were given an early reprieve when a penalty awarded for Yannick Carrasco’s challenge on Andrej Kramaric was overturned for offside against Dejan Lovren in the build-up as Luka Modric was lining up to take it.

The arrival of Lukaku coincided with the game finally coming to life, the Inter striker forcing Dominik Livakovic into the first save of the contest a little over three minutes after coming on.

That in turn sparked Croatia into life and Thibaut Courtois – on his 100th cap – made three saves in the space of four minutes to deny midfield trio Mateo Kovacic, Marcelo Brozovic and Luka Modric.

Lukaku then hit the post with plenty of the net to aim for after Carrasco’s blocked shot fell nicely in his path, before heading over from close range with the goal again gaping – though VAR may have intervened even if he had scored.

The biggest miss was still to come as Lukaku failed to help the ball over the line from a couple of yards when Thorgan Hazard’s cross was missed by Lovren, meaning elimination for Belgium and a second-place finish behind Morocco for Croatia.

He stated that the current transportation fares would remain unchanged.

“We are aware that the cost of fuel has decreased. We would desire to reduce transportation fares, but we are not prepared to do so. We will not even lower fares by one pesewa. There has been no change. As a result, we are unwilling to lower transportation fares.”

“If a thief steals from you and you chase him down and he gives you back some of what he stole from you, do you celebrate and clap for him?” he asked.
