(VIDEO)We Are Not Afraid Of You-Kwesi Pratt Jnr Spits A Venom

Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a veteran journalist, has taken aim at the Ghana Judicial Service for ordering the media to remove what they call “hateful, spiteful, and incendiary” statements about judges.

Delete Statements Against Judges That Are Hateful, Spiteful, And Incendiary, Or Else

In a statement sent to all media outlets over the weekend, lawyers for the Ghana Judicial Service said it is “unacceptable” for media outlets to “publish on your platforms, speeches, statements, and publications which excite anger, hate, and passion against the Justices presiding over the election petition.”

The statement went on to say that such “statements and speeches interfere with the proper administration of justice because Justices of our client are threatened with ominous consequences as a result of their decisions that do not meet the expectations of some members of society.”

“This concern has been heightened by the flurry of statements and speeches directed at our client’s Justices, especially after the commencement of hearing of the election petition in the suit intituled John Dramani Mahama v Electoral Commission & Nana Addo,” according to a portion of the statement.

“Pull or cause to be pulled down and cleared from your platforms all statements and speeches that convey and/or insinuate hateful, spiteful, vengeful and incendiary communication against Justices of our client, especially those hearing the election petition,” the legal counsel instructed the media.

Nobody has the power to intimidate us.

In response to the statement, Kwesi Pratt reminded the Judges that Ghana has progressed since the days of intimidation.

In “today’s Ghana,” he stated emphatically that no one, including the judiciary, can cow the media or suppress their freedom.

He questioned why the Judicial Service did not mention specific issues in their statement, such as which media outlets and reports were used to incite such hateful, spiteful, and incendiary statements against the Judges.

He urged the judges to name and shame the specific media outlets, but emphasized that “freedom of expression, freedom of association, and so on are not things we’re going to allow someone to intimidate us to abandon.” It’s not going to happen”.

“I don’t see anything specific that they’re describing… Exactly! So, if you write it in a general manner, it appears to be a deliberate attempt to cow the media because there is no basis for it,” he continued.

“Where we have reached in Ghana, nobody can intimidate us,” he said in a strong message to the Judicial Service. Nobody in Ghana can intimidate us; that is impossible. It is no longer possible to intimidate us. We talked even when it seemed like if you spoke, you’d be killed;

JB Danquah Wanted To Name The Newly Independent Gold Coast ‘Akan Land’ – Kwesi Pratt Jnr

Managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has debunked claims by adherents of the Danquah-Busia tradition that Joseph Boakye (JB) Danquah suggested the name ‘Ghana’ to be given to the newly independent Gold Coast Colony.

Speaking on his television station, Pan African TV, Kwesi Pratt said J.B Danquah actually wanted to name the country ‘Akan Land’!

“The name J.B. Danquah suggested for the Gold Coast was Akan Land. Can you imagine that we were struggling for independence one of the people said after independence, we should call this place Akan Land?” he said.

Pratt said the name ‘Ghana’ was suggested by a priest and historian who made the connection between the historical Ghana empire and the Gold Coast.

He also added that whilst the Danquah-led faction wanted a fragmented nation, Kwame Nkrumah was the one who fought for a united nation and even brought in Transvolta Togoland.

“There is this argument that he [J.B Danquah] is the one who actually suggested the name Ghana, it is not true. The historical record is there and clear. Lord Lugard and his wife, even before then there was a priest who had traced the link between the Gold Coast and the new Ghanaian empire. The record is there and clear.

“The name J.B. Danquah suggested for the Gold Coast was Akan Land…The referendum which led to the inclusion of British Togoland, the campaign was led by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. There is no dispute about it. Ghana has always not been like this. Something went into bringing Trans-Volta Togoland, consolidating Ashanti space in Ghana, and bringing the Northern Territory to Ghana. What did J.B. Danquah do to bring Trans-Volta Togoland to Ghana? What did he do?” he queried.
